Subject: does anyone have experience sewing a bodice out of swinsuit material ( heavyweight 90%polester/10%spandex from spandexworld) ? in particular, did you line it, interface it, and if so with what type of material? it would seem to be hot and i don't want it to be hotter.

also, were you able to satin stitch your designs or appliques on the spandex with no trouble? was there a technique you found better? I am using stretch sequins as my appliques (NT)opSaturday, May 05, 02:25:48pm

I've never made a bodice of heavy lycra, but I would think that the dense embroidery stitching would just trash the lycra. Any other thoughts DM's? I would not try it myself. Just my 2 (NT)centsSaturday, May 05, 09:35:26pm

Why would you choose this fabric in the first place? Choose something else, it is unlikely to work well (NT).Saturday, May 05, 11:59:55pm

Have used it because client insisted...embroidery destroyed the fabric (hard to interface it, too), so ended up making patches. Looked ok for about a day. Did not charge full price because I did not want them back complaining even though I warned them. (NT)don't do it.Sunday, May 06, 07:11:01am

My dtrs dress has heavy lycra in the sleeves. She finds them to be very hot and her arms sweat.. (NT).Sunday, May 06, 07:39:14am

thanks for advance warnings. The color and shime was perfect but I will try to fimd it in another type fabric. No use startimg and ending with a headache job! (NT)glad I askedSunday, May 06, 09:50:52am

Lycra fabric. Back about 10 years ago a lot of the dresses were made of lycra fabric. I have sewing many dresses using lycra over the years and it is like any other fabric, use the right technique ie : needle, backing the lycra right and you should be fine . Much easier to work with than sequine fabric. (NT)Dressmaker.Sunday, May 06, 12:52:06pm

I have used a light weight Lycra under a twinkle organza because it was the color that the customer wanted. The embroidery and appliqué looked great. I used a cotton stabilizer as well as a good tear away stabilizer. (NT)Good luckMonday, May 07, 07:20:27pm
