Subject: So why does anyone still make custom dresses when Off the Rack dresses are so much less hassle and complete freedom to make what we want?

Guaranteed income. You never know when, or for how much, an off-the-rack will sell. Wish I could only do OTR, but I need at least some guaranteed money coming in to pay my bills on time. (NT)me.Thursday, June 04, 08:48:24am

Off the rack is too fickle. You can make dresses in the size/colors/style people have been asking about for months, and then have them just sit there. I do them as fillers when custom work is slow, but couldn't rely on them as a single income household. (NT)--Thursday, June 04, 11:52:19am

OTR's are still sitting in my closet not selling. If this is your only income..doesn't workThursday, June 04, 12:43:32pm

As above.. They are unreliable income. When I make one, I have no idea when it will sell and will often end up having to accept a lower offer. For a more reliable income from RM you would have to have a large selection of colours and sizes available, and it would still be hit and miss. Fine for practice and bonus income, not for sole income. Custom orders are a guaranteed income. (NT):)Thursday, June 04, 06:35:34pm

I have given some thought to doing off-the-rack dresses, but the reality is that I have not had the time due to the number of customer dress orders that I've had. Is the same thing happening with anyone else? I can't believe the number of people ordering new dresses this year. It's nice to have guaranteed income! (NT)thankfulSaturday, June 06, 05:30:09pm
