There is no one I trust more than the ladies of this board. Sadly, my antique Elna (circa 1957) has finally given out and it's time for a new machine. I don't do much sewing (am not a dressmaker) but have sewn on and off for years and would like to do more, now that I am retired. A friend's m-i-l has a Viking Husqvarna Rose that she bought a few years ago for $2000 and has used very little. She is elderly and downsizing and (knowing that there is a potential buyer out there), is asking $1000. I have no idea how much it's worth. I read on a quilting forum about someone that bought one on eBay and it didn't come with any of the embroidery equipment that was supposed to be a part of it.
I have already purchased a Janome (Magnolia 7330) that I'm liking a lot, but would buy the Viking at the right price, since it likely has more features and can do more. I'd like to work with heavier fabrics, lightweight leathers and try machine embroidery ... Thoughts? I'm thinking of offering $600 to $700 ... does that seem like a fair price? Insulting? Overypaying? Bargain? Thank you for any insights!
