could anyone help me with the following please. Ive made several dresses before but none with the new short stiff skirt ..Ive tried lining the entire skirt with viline but then its difficult to dance in as the vilene is so stiff that the skirt can't move as these new skirts are VERY small with no gathers . If I use anything else I cant get the sides to "stick out " as there seems to be a side pleat..would really appreciate any help as I have to have a dress made for dd ASAP ..so many thanks in advance

I don't stiffen it at all. The embroidery itself makes it slightly stiff. (NT)The frame of the skirt makes the sides stay in placeMonday, March 06, 07:26:19pm

The skirts are utilizing an underpanel that is stiffened and encased in a solid fabric. Then the stabilized skirt is layed over that. Some add a layer of ruffled satin onto the under structure and/or a litttly gathered netting for flow. Both front and back have the stiffened under structure that creates the shape you need. Have a look under some skirts and you will see what is meant by the frame. All big name dressmakers use separate stiffened panels to support the skirt embroidered layer, and you do need that to give the skirt the right look (NT)Good Luck!Tuesday, March 07, 01:32:22pm

Do you belong to the Yahoo Irish dance dressmakers board? Plenty of info, pics, conversations and even a tutorial on a skirt frame. If not, go join - https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/IDDressmaking/info (NT)**Wednesday, March 08, 09:00:54pm
