Hi there! My daughter got a new dress this year. I just noticed at a feis this weekend that the corners of the skirt have started to curl in and have lost the stiffness to stick out at the sides. We'll take it to someone for proper alterations after Nationals, but is there anything we can do to stiffen the skirt temporarily in the meantime? Wish we'd noticed sooner, but we're afraid it's too late to have it altered in time!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Are you storing the dress flat? It is unusual that the skirt is not holding up if it is only made this year. (NT)Unless it was poorly made in the first place.Tuesday, June 20, 05:31:20pm

Skirts themselves aren't stiffened these days, so it is hard to know exactly what you are talking about. The stiffener underneath the skirt? I would suggest you ask the dressmaker directly. (NT)moTuesday, June 20, 08:11:49pm

To answer the question, you could try steam ironing the stiffening under the skirt through a cloth if it has been bent, and then store it flat. You could also try stitching on a piece of boning across the skirt front and into the corners, to keep it flat (NT)Good luck!Tuesday, June 20, 10:22:47pm
