For beginner (non-competitive) costumes, our dancers wear a leotard and skirt with a fairly wide, (Sort of a cummerbund style, but more drapey) belt. We have a new dancer that is fairly heavy. Should I adjust the width of the belt on her costume so it is proportionally similar to the other dancers costumes, or should I just use the same width belt for her.

I haven't adjusted the width of the belt for other size differences (from teeny kids, to pre teens) but they have ranged from very slim to just average weight. It is hard enough for young girls who are heavy. I want her to look good and feel good in her costume.

What do you think would be most flattering?

As a heavy lady myself, I would think the belt width should be the same on all. If 8 girls are lined up, then a width change would be be more noticeable. (NT)my 2 centerSunday, September 24, 12:17:42pm

One thing to consider is how a wider belt would sit on her. I sometimes have problems with sashes scrunching up between my waist and belly roll, which ends up just making it look even more narrow. So I wide belt might not lay as flat as you'd like. (NT)MPTuesday, September 26, 08:28:38am

I would suggest that you make the width the same as the other dancers and use a stabilizer underneath the front so it doesn't roll. Also, the placement might be a factor. You might need to pin it in place so it doesn't shift. (NT)good luckMonday, January 29, 11:56:00am
