Subject: Custom dress miscommunication?

Question for experienced dressmakers:

If I send out an inquiry and hire a dressmaker based on designs thy have done, send them numerous examples of styles and fabrics that I would like my design to be based off of, do you draw up new options based in that style, or do you just pull a random variety out of your sketch book for me to goose from?

I think you just answered your own question. If you hired the dm based on designs they have done, then I would assume you would want one of their designs. Did you specify that you only wanted a design that was drawn after you hired them? Personally I am always sketching designs as they pop into my head constantly. They are all my designs and all are unique, so I don't think it matters when the design was created. My best designs are always the ones that just come to me. And why do dressmakers charge extra when you submit a design you did yourself? (NT)What?Friday, April 12, 11:25:30am

I have had customers come to me with designs and there is still a LOT of work that has to be done to make it fit the space on the dress properly..... Continued insidesndmFriday, April 12, 04:41:58pm

If I were this dm, I would send this deposit back immediately! (NT)Just saying....Friday, April 12, 09:32:14pm

I also think the DM should run away AFTER she deducts from the deposit the cost for her time. (NT)Ridiculous expectationsSaturday, April 13, 12:34:38am

Are any of the sketches similar to the "numerous examples and styles" that were sent? Perhaps the dress amker is a little overwhelmed with all the ideas sent and has tried to supply a wide range of options for the client? It might be best to approach the miscommunication with two or three of your favorite examples and narrow the otpions down a little. (NT)Just a suggestion :)Saturday, April 13, 09:23:44am
