Subject: box pleated skirt - tearing my hair out trying to do a box pleat skirt. I know I am doing something really stupid but I can't find it! Can anyone help how deep the pleats are and how to measure how much you need? I'm soooooooo frustrated at the minute!

I've been there! I think the ones I've done have been about 4.5" wide per box, with a pleat about 1.5" deep. Usually takes something less than two widths of fabric for the front of the skirt, and about 1 width for each back half. I've given up trying to do the math. Just keep repleating until it works out. (NT)often frustrated too!Thursday, May 02, 05:10:59pm

I just decide that I want 5 pleats across the front and play with them to get the look I want. (NT)No measurementsThursday, May 02, 07:13:58pm

It is like draping the curtains for me. I pin the pleats until I get the desired look (NT).Thursday, May 02, 08:15:36pm

Make sure you have plenty in the side folds to avoid that pulled-tight look. (NT).Friday, May 03, 12:06:44am

thank you, I'll keep trying. I just thought I was missing a vital link - it just looks sooooooooo simple and is soooooo frustrating lol! Here we go again! (NT)dmSaturday, May 04, 03:31:43am

There is a thread on dance.net dressmakers page where a mum goes though how she did it. She cut it as a circle. I cut the fabric straight and play about to get the look I want. Less fabric waste for me this way. (NT)DMSunday, May 05, 04:19:52pm
