Subject: Sorry, I meant 2 yards of actual dress fabric, but that alone can cost well over $50 if you are using nice velvet or sequins.

In reply to: - 's message, "$25 in materials? What kind of material are you using? You need at least 2 yards of stiffener, 2 yards of lining to line the stiffener, 3-4 yards of fabric if only one layer, but several more if you do multiple layers and/or line the top layer, and thread. Those are the absolute minimum materials necessary and there is no way you will be getting all that for $25." on Thursday, January 10, 12:13:41pm

My earlier comment said $25 - $50 for materials. I assumed using basic crystal or regular satin @ $6.00 - $8.00 per yard-60 in wide, 1 yd. of stiffener (mine is wide enough to get front and back) and $20 - $25/hr labor. That's how we did it in bridal. The hourly rate works out to $40K to $50K in annual salary. I work out of my home, and don't see an increase in utilities when I'm sewing alot. So I don't factor that in. I have a day job. Dance dresses are something I do for creative balance. (NT)LynnToledoThursday, January 10, 02:45:38pm
