Subject: I find I do exactly the same - one width of fabric for each back, and about 1.75 widths for the front. But 12" worth of ruffle sounds very long if attached to a yoke. With a dropped waist, I find the average teen has about 9" of ruffle length.

In reply to: AT 's message, "I ususally draw out my pattern/template and then take the bottom edge measurement and multiply by 1.5 to get the length for a gathered skirt. The back pieces are usually about one length of fabric (45") and the front piece is 1 length plus a partial. Right there you have 4 lengths of 12" (1 1/3 yards). That's for one layer and you can adjust if you are doing under layers or lining, etc" on Thursday, January 24, 08:45:32am

True. Maybe she is thinking 12" length to start and then the yoke will go over that, making the visible part of the skirt more like 9" ?? Yes, she would need less fabric then (NT)ATThursday, January 24, 11:07:17am
