Subject: How quickly can an allergy progress?

I am writing to inquire if a latex allergy can progress from just getting hives to not being able to breathe without any "notice"? I've gone on the internet quite a bit to try to determine how quickly the progression can be but none give time frames. My daughter's allergy in the past has just been hives when direct contact is involved. (Bandaids, handling balloons, etc.) Last week we had two incidents where she couldn't breathe. She's had many surgeries due to a birth defect, and know her allergy is a result of this. No one has told us how quickly this can onset or any tips other than to avoid the items. (Which we do.) Most info I find on the internet. How quickly will this progress? I was under the understanding that hers was just going to be hives. Will she react this way each time now?
