You didn't say exactly what kind of reaction you had. Here's some possibilities. Any of the vegetables could have been handled at the store by someone with latex gloves. I've seen people in produce depts wear rubber gloves even though here in Arizona food handling while wearing latex gloves is illegal.
Another possibility: cabbage, onions and cucumbers are all known culprits that can cause IBS if you had gastric symptoms. Also cabbage and onion contain sulfur and many people are allergic to sulfur. I have trouble breathing if I eat onions or garlic both of which contain sulfur.
