Some feiseanna in the ER will have a "special" competition for "special" dancers--would like to see more of that. There is a teacher in NJ who teaches classes which I think are geared towards dancers with physical limitations (i.e. in wheelchairs).
One school in our region has a young dancer (with minor disabilities) who performs often. She may not always dance the steps perfectly, but she radiates "the joy of dance." Audiences love to see her, but not all teachers would be as supportive. Competing or dancing on teams would probably be difficult.
In the long run, Irish step dancing can be frustrating even for those without physical disabilities. Are there any non-certified ID schools in your area? Since they don't compete, they might more flexible. Have you looked into ceili/set dancing as a family activity? Pointed toes and turned-out feet are NOT a requirement. My LD child does ceili dancing & karate. Is your child musical? Learning to play Irish music is another possibility.
Personally, I would not have a physically disabled child take classes at a competitive school . . . but you're the best judge of your situation.
