Our TCRG has told us that if there were at least five dancers (including yourself) you *must* move up the following year if you place (not sure if it's only first or first/second or what).
You *may* move up at any time (with your TCRG's permission, of course) even if there are fewer than five dancers in the feis where you placed, or can move up mid-year instead of waiting until the next year. However, once you move up you can't move back down.
Who knows why the other mother told you the wrong info, jealousy?
Good luck.

  • Do consult your teacher. In our school a dancer would rarely be allowed to move up mid-year no matter what. Also, beware that you can't really look at how "high" the marks are. I've read that at beginner-prizewinner levels each judge pretty much uses his/her own "scale", that is the scores are comparitive based on that competition, not concrete. • oh, lordy are the judges scales way off at the early levels - I just got results, and my TJ score was 75 and placed 2nd... my reel score was 85 and placed 4th! (NT) -- Christy, 20:37:04 08/07/02 Wed
  • It also depends on what region you are in. In the Western US region, you move up at the next feis, not the next year. The teacher makes the decision, though. (NT) -- X, 01:00:06 08/10/02 Sat
