I remember coming home from the first day of kindergarten (looonnngg before Sesame St.!) crying my eyes out. Mom, alarmed, asked if the teacher was mean. My reply? "They didn't teach me to READ yet!!!!" We had to be able to write our name in cursive before we could get our own library card (I used Mom's, but wanted my own) - and with a Y in my name it took forever before we got my whole name in script. I don't remember the first book I read... But I read every dog, horse, and cat book I could lay hands on; I think the first romances were Barbara Cartlands; quickly moved to Rosemary Rogers, Patricia Matthews, Bertrice Small, and Sergeanne Golon. I loved Asimov, Norton, Heinlein, and Lewis, too, first, though... -- Merry, Friday, November 25, 09:29:17pm |
