You don't "NEED" it for e-books but it makes it nice to carry them with you rather than to try & read them from the computer.... I LOVE mine! There are several different kinds out there Heather & Ann have the Sony & I have the CyBook. The Sony isn't compatible with Mac's so thats why I have a different one. -- RBL Romantica!!
