Subject: Michael Jackson gone

I know he was bizarre in the end and may have had some icky secrets, but I was a big Michael Jackson fan in junior high and high school. It's sad to see someone with so much talent fall apart the way he did — and then died so young. And, yeah, these days 50 is young.

RIP, MIchael. Thanks for the hours of dancing.

[> I hope he is finally at peace. He certainly wasn't at peace in his life. He really was very influential in pop music in the 80's but I think a lot of his musical contributions were overshadows by his personal demons. -- AnnAnn, Thursday, June 25, 05:58:25pm

[> [> That's so true, Ann. Sometimes it was hard to remember how amazing he was on stage because all of that distracted from his abilities as a performer. I watched a concert video of "Billy Jean" yesterday and remembered how enthralled my generation was (that would be our generation) over his dancing. I showed my son and told him that there's never been anyone who could dance like Michael. -- P.C., Friday, June 26, 07:03:35am

[> I'm a little surprised at how much this has upset me. While I was not particularly a fan, he was part of the soundtrack of my life. I hope now he is at peace. There won't be another like him. -- Beth, Thursday, June 25, 10:20:38pm

[> [> Same here, Beth. I loved his music up through and including "Thriller." And "Thriller" was the soundtrack of my senior year of high school. I have many memories of that album and dancing (and making out... I was genuinely shocked when I heard the news and felt deeply saddened by it. :-( -- P.C., Friday, June 26, 07:05:23am

[> I've always hoped that the worst wasn't true, but we'll never know.I thought it was sad to see what became of him, after what an amazing performer he was.I forget how old I was,but I remember when they had sequined gloves for sale at the checkout lane in the grocery stores, and I remember begging my Mom to buy me one.By himself he was spectacular, and when he teamed up with others, well, that was really a treat.I was shocked to see the news yesterday. -- Bo, Friday, June 26, 09:16:22am

[> [> Did your mom buy you that glove, Bo? LOL! I remember making out on the dance floor to "Billy Jean." It was incredibly erotic -- being in a room of people dancing and all but having sex right there. TMI, probably. But that's one of my best memories from that time. -- P.C., Friday, June 26, 09:44:01am
