Terra,
I, too, share your discontentment. You must have paid over a $100 for a bird of that quality. But what I don't understand is you disappointment in his spurs. The "East Coast Breeder" told you the bird was 3 years old. Some of my clean legged breeds can grow them even longer in a shorter time. It's a simple thing to take care of and not a big deal. As far as his skin older birds sometimes just develop skin conditions. Just as an older gentlemen does. Does your father's skin look the same as you children's? Remember you are buying a "used car." Do you expect it to not have any problems? What we all have to remember is that we are only buying genetic material not the show winner. To raise the show winner is a true breeders goal and the exhibitor's responsibility to condition the bird. Remember, breeder's are raising hundreds of birds to produce three or four show quality birds, and spurs are the least of their worries since they are of a minimal concern for a sale bird.
