Hi Guys,

I've been working on making Lavender Cochins for the past three years. I started with a Black Cochin male crossed on three Self Blue d'Uccles. The F1's were all black except for some of the cockerels having silver in the hackle. For the F2 generation, I selected the F1 parents that were the closest to cochin type, best feather quality, and black color throughout.

The F2 generation did have a small number of lavender chicks and I selected from these the three best pullets. To these pullets I chose a brother of the Black Cochin male that I started the project with.

Now at year three I still have several traits to select against: Stiff Feathering, Vulture Hocks, Remnants of Beards, Willow Legs in Females, and Pinched Cushion Shape.

This project is slow going because you have to breed the F1's together every time to get some lavenders. Then introduce a Black Cochin into the mix to bring in some good type.

I have found the following websites to have good information on the description and breeding of the Lavender Cochin.
