 To be show quality the birds must be very close to the ideal description for that particular breed and variety as described in the "Standard of Perfection" from the American Poultry Association or "The Bantam Standard" from the American Bantam Association. Birds can have minor flaws (called defects) and still be show quality but there are also certain more serious flaws (called disqualifications)decribed in those standards that would make a bird ineligible for further judging.
