Jay-
I'm interested in your comments about the changing color, as I haven't experienced this. My hens seem to keep the same lacing through the years. By changing to red do you mean that the males get more red coloration (and less blue) or do you mean that the proper "lemon" color darkens to red?
I do show a range of red shades, from what I think is the proper "lemon" color to a deep mahagony on red (more similar to a blue breasted red shade.) One of my better laced males is bright orange, right in the middle of these.
Breast lacing in the males is definitely my biggest challenge. I seem to be getting a larger percentage of decent laced birds than in past years, but still have few "clean" laced birds.
Please post some more details on what issues you see and how you have fixed them. I had a momentary breakthrough on birchen breast lacing with some very clean (but overly) laced males from a white-columbian cross. I planned to follow a similar path with the lemon blues (buff columbian?) but am not sure that the results have been passed down two generations very well.
The lemon blues are beautiful when they are right.
