Subject: 7of9 Word Contest

Something odd has happened in the J/7 Alcove's little contest - more people have contributed with a 79-Word story than readers have voted. So, I've extended the voting period till January 20 and hope you would like to drop by and give our writers the support by voting.

Regards,
Elize

My quick count of entries is 22. I doubt there are 22 individuals who stop by here. Also, I wonder how many readers and potential voters are reluctant to submit a vote via e-mail.

I've noticed that announcements regarding competitions, new stories, etc. are very often only posted to one message board. Is it considered "inappropriate" to post to boards connected to an author site about other authors? Generally speaking, I notice things are posted here and not at GB's or Gina's boards or posted there and not here or posted at 2 out of 3, etc. and that's just the Voy boards. I realize some folks (obviously me) look at all three but not everyone.

How many "readers" of J/7 still remain? Not the reader/writer or reader/betas - just those who read?
Perhaps a question for the next Alcove mini-poll?

For those who haven't taken the time or been inclined to make the effort to read all the entries...

I highly recommend you do so. Interesting points of view and selections regarding scenario, varying degrees of success at getting an idea across(to be expected) but some hidden gems worth finding.

As a collection it gets you thinking...go ahead try it

Well, I've posted to Gina's and GB's board about the 7of9 word competition. If your hit counter and mailbox don't explode...I've lost my touch or maybe it proves there aren't 22 people out there. *g*

Thank's AF. I usually post on a couple of boards ... Never Gina's though .. don't know why. The site itself get a lot of hits and the response of writers to the contest was quite a surprise. Many really enjoyed it. But perhaps contests are unnecessary. Just a challenge would probably be easier ... no voting.

I do think the J/7 community is larger than we might expect but somehow I have a feeling fanfiction and writing is not as big. I don't know. The fandom itself seem to be around.

We'll see what happens. Thanks again.

I voted early.
And I'm a reader.
Not a writer.
Not a beta either.
So yes, there are some of us still out here!
And if they're anything like me, they hold their breath everytime they log into this site in the hopes of seeing if anyone's posted a new link to J/7 fiction.

A temporally-challenged procrastinator. *g* I read all the stories and enjoyed them greatly. But kept putting off voting till the last minute, and then the date slipped by me! Thank you, Elize, for giving me another chance. Going right now to submit my vote.

The J/7 world is very much alive and kicking, as far as I can tell. I myself check the kimandkerry.com message board (The Kate Mulgrew appreciation thread can get very lively sometimes) and the new board at janewayseven.com that is almost too lively to follow. That board boasts 240 members, so that should add up to more then 22 readers methinks? The girls who spawned the SOC challenge reside there.

I didn't check on the 79 word competition because I (am trying to) limit my online time and reading and posting and enetering the Soc challenge fills that allotted time up rather quickly. Maybe that goes for more J/7 - eners out there?

I guess I am obliged to go there now, ain't I?
