Well, the story centers around a couple Bette/Tina who are trying to get pregnant. They are sort of the glue people who hold together a menagerie of friends. There's the bi - Alice - a journalist with an interesting mother and a rather crappy ex-girlfriend. Then there's the closeted one - Dana - a wanna be higher ranked tennis player who has just found 'like' with a chef. (She's been funny - she's only had 2 girlfriends her whole life - and neither lasted very long. She's kinda inept at the whole dating thing.) Then there's Shane - the love 'em and leave 'em sort who just oozes sex. And finally, Marina who owns a little cafe where the whole gang hangs out.

On the periphery (sorta) are Tim and his fiancée Jenni - who Marina finds very attractive. She seduces Jenni and Jenni, who has no idea what she's gotten herself into, denies the attraction, but not for long. Then there's Bette's sister - Kitt? - who is supposed to be in AA but whom we've seen drinking on several occasions and just found out has a son she hasn't seen in years.

Each episode has gotten the plotholes plugged up - because after the first episode, I had a lot of questions. I also think each episode has gotten better and better. I'm fascinated with Jenni and Marina just because I can't wait to see what happens next. (What's the quote, "No good can come of this?" :-)

Mostly we're 'the fly on the wall' in all these people's lives. Tina quits a very good job to concentrate on getting pregnant. Bette is a type A personality who's got a demanding job and family. Jenni can't write because she's daydreaming about being with Marina. Alice is frustrated with her mother and her ex-girlfriend. Shane was being stalked by a one night stand. Dana just had her first female ejaculation and was ashamed and embarrassed by it. Tim is starting to believe he can't trust Marina.

Re the "L-Word," boy, oh boy. Well, I waited a long time for it (since reading the original spec script a looonnnggg time ago) AND even re-activated our Showtime for it. I really enjoyed the first two episodes, but it seems to have gotten worse, not better. The writing and directing both fall short, unfortunately. BUT, hey, I'm a believer and it's not everywhere you get to see attractive lesbians on tv, so I'll keep watching. I think my partner got too bored during the last show so she probably won't be watching anymore. I really hope it improves because there's so much to explore. And at least they've renewed already for a second season...hopefully a good sign.
