Suddenly thinking a golden lab would be a good shape for shifting. What on earth is SMG doing with an (undisciplined) Akita AND having a baby? I have fearzzz...

Blue is gone to the Rainbow Bridge--no wonder she turned sideways in this picture, too; I haven't heard about the Chinese poof or if DB got other dogs when he moved and also gained a daughter--what an awful name--like a can of dog food: Bardot Vita? And it is a tale,
without fur or a tail, well, a tale of the waggy sort, but not a happy one. Jeez--Salty must be devastated THIS sorta stuff got printed. Maybe it's just stupid gossip. I hope so.

NOW WE get the real cheer! A wonderful lizard--does he eat puppies, even if they are in sandals, or just dead skunks in the middle of the road?

I hear Florida really has a problem with people turning loose pets e.g. Boas, monkeys and parrots figuring they can live well in the wild. People don't deserve a brain I think sometimes. I just look forward to my preying/praying mantis showing up with hot days. They know I won't poison or bother them and they do earn their keep!

Wonderful picture of NPH, wearing a RESPECT shirt, in good step and stride with ALL of his loves. Never saw this one. Good cheer here!

THANKS for the warm companionship given each day!
Be well

It's body is only about six inches but its tale might be another 6 or so. They eat bugs mostly but I have seen them scavenge people food that has been dropped in front of them eg bits of hamburger. I believe they are stoways from cruises to the Bahamas rather than released captives. (Who would want to give up on such a nice pet? Pretty easy to feed as far as I can tell from watching them in the wild.)

Isn't that a common adaptation on lizards that have to raise themselves up from burning sand? I would think Fla. is lizard haven/heaven! I notice the leaves as a comparison, but you grow masterful sizes of vegetation, too.

I think he is worth looking up to learn more, like so many of your great observations.

Thanks!

reptile heaven. We are subtropical so there are some species (thank goodness) that can't survive the winters but for the most part if it has scales it can make Florida home. Here's a site I visit on a regular basis for new photos people post:

I have to say I still like the green anole--the chameleon. He is native to the US and he shows his "true colors." I mostly wish people would love creatures to love the world they need to live in. ha!

The brown basilisk is the most bizarre in behavior--I will never forget seeing it run up right on water and those dewlaps sticking out of its rather big head make it a perfect stand in for "monster movies."

I have to admit I rather cringe that so many come from the pet trade. what is the matter with people in obtaining creatures they won't care for, with respect to their nature, for the life of the animal? I am looking at people who take isolated animals that belong in flocks e.g. parrots and can live easily 80 years. le sigh. Stupid people. Again, I hope the alligators eat them, slip away quickly so OTHER stupid people don't kill them.

I am very dismayed here that cougar/puma follow the rivers/deer and every single one of them is just shot rather than transported to Rockies. It would seem that people think they have the right ro live up in the hills because they can afford the house, but expect roads, stores, and emergency services along with it. I am in the crowd, you go up there, you are on your own with all your stupidity for company. (And truth be known, people using stupid GPS or shooting people is the REAL problem, not encounters with wildlife, including snakes).

A most excellent site for a preview of the "interesting" life (to me) in Florida, to learn more, i'll agree! Still think life there is only possible at high cost to environs, which Floridians also are "waking up" to preserve for their own preservation re clean water, for tourism. Thanks again for sharing a fascinating place in the comfort of our own homes!

and then the economy collapsed. One of the first things that seems to evaporate (along with jobs) is environmental awareness. We go from "stop the evil offshore drilling" to screw the environment as long as I can fill my tank. We go from doing everything we can to stop big sugar (and others) from destroying our natural waterways to "to hell with fresh water just please, please get me a job". Of course people find out (always too late) that no jobs are created. A few millionaires become billionaires and we have less natural resources than before but that's about all that changes.

The only thing that saves us is that SOME of the billionaires actually do care about the environment and buy up lands but mostly entropy ensues. Fortunately, a lot of the animals just shrug and move next doors, like the anoles and coyotes and bobcats have done fairly successfully. Oh and vultures love people. If you listen you can hear them saying "thanks for all the free road kill and nice high perches."

(That's the Miami courthouse those vultures are perching on. Gotta love it.)

SMG was enamored with Japan during Grudge films, etc. So I wasn't surprised she got such a dog--she really isn't all that extroverted and she likes the (shallow) shishi of ruffles, jewelry, exotic accesoriies even if SHE is grounded.

http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/37765524.html There are many more, including the tug of war above when she was pregnant (2009)

Akita genrally more clearly marked, "piebald" looking and doesn't have black mask in Japan (Akita prefecture) allowed in American Akita, It most certainly is a guard dog, not a hunter.

I see that the shaggier look, coloring and mask can fool you.

It's the head that tipped me and square set of back legs--even gait. Requires strong pack leader/training as pup AS YOU SEE in that picture of SMG taking Tyson to vet for accupuncture. (Several pictures It will be willfull and even agreasive to other animals/people. It is very careful with its own pups and with training the young of its "family."
