In the case of my ex...his mother use to give all 3 of her children heavy doses of NyQuil when they were little. She would sedate them when she didn't want to deal with them anymore. Then, around the age of 9, she introduced them to smoking pot because she couldn't hide her own habit. As they got into high school she was a walking pharmacy, giving them all kinds of prescription meds. When she came to visit our house to see her grandchildren, she would unpack a separate suitcase full of pharmaceuticals. Just because you give birth, doesn't make you a mom. You have to actually parent and not be a buddy. There are "good" moms today in jail in my county right now for allowing their teenage kids to drink and do drugs in the house because "at least I know where they are." Parents are accountable for their kids' actions. I agree, Leif is responsible for his actions as an adult, but his mother was responsible then.
