Subject: A loss to our family........

It is with great sadness that I tell you that our dog, Shelby, passed away in our arms earlier this evening. She was surrounded by her immediately family. We were all fortunate that she waited for us all to be home for her to say good-bye. Shelby was 16 years, 8 months old. We brought her home when she was 6 weeks old, the runt of the litter and the last one to be picked. She slept on my belly when I was pregnant and excitedly welcomed both our babies. She became a "nana dog" and treated them like her own. She brought us much joy and love.

Our hearts are very heavy tonight and the tears haven't stopped, but we know how lucky we were to have Shelby in our lives.

Love to you all.

[> Oh, Bonnie. I'm so sorry. So many people pass off the loss of a pet as a minor thing - but pets are as much a part of some families as children - or in my case, they are my children since I don't have any. My deepest sympathies to you and Rich and the girls. There just are no adequate words. God bless and much love to you and your family. -- Tina Lyn (deeply saddened), Sat, Mar 28 2009, 8:36:54 [1]

Bonnie,
I am so very sorry to hear about Shelby. I can understand how you must be feeling. It sounds like she had a long, happy, loving life with you and your family. I know it sounds cheesy but they really are a part of the fam and it is so heartbreaking when something happens to them.
Like Tina Lyn, I also do not have any children and my dog Rusty (and my other dog, Rudy) are both spoiled rotten and treated like my four legged children. When Rusty was missing last weekend, I could not stop crying, people at work were like, it's just a dog. SOme people really don't understand how much they mean and how they can teach you about life in little ways. Shelby sounded like a sweetheart, so sorry for your loss.

[> Thanks for understanding. Shelby was a part of our family, my first baby. Here's a picture of her in 2007.

[> Hello Bonnie, I too would just like to pass on my condolences o n the loss of your much loved Shelby, she looks a real cutie! , but she will never be far a way from you with all the happy memories you have of her. I lost my much loved cat Maisie about six weeks ago and it broke my heart. -- Jacqueline (England) (feeling very sad), Thu, Apr 02 2009, 17:41:45 [1]

[> Thanks for all well wishes about Shelby. We brought her ashes home last Friday. Now, we are going through pictures to make a collage for the frame on the wooden box(urn). We are doing much better and the girls speak of her with smiles more often than sadness. It was hard to go through, but we wouldn't have had it any other way. Thanks again for caring. -- Bonnie, Tue, Apr 07 2009, 17:35:53 [1]

>Bonnie, you're welcome. Glad to hear it is getting easier now for you and your family and you can start to happily remember all the good times you had with Shelby. A smile thru tears is never a bad thing.
