Subject: Bajaj up stake in KTM, agree deal to market Kawasaki in Asia

Indian manufacturer Baja continues to develop it’s deals with overseas partners. Firstly, they have said they will increase their stake in KTM to “over 25%”

The two companies have spoken further of their intentions to jointly develop in new areas. A spokesman for KTM said "Until now, we were in the off-the-road bikes segment. But with Bajaj, we are looking to develop a high performance, water-cooled engine platform for 125 cc and 250 cc bikes."

Bajaj are due to will roll-out KTM bikes by mid-2008, with the jointly developed entry-level bikes primarily produced at Bajaj's existing facilities.

Bajaj has also entered into an agreement with Kawasaki – a long-term technical partner - to distribute the latter's bikes in India and again are talking about possibilities of developing joint products. The initial distruibution plan will look to launch four models; Ninja 250, ER-6n, ZX6R and Z1000 with the 250 being the first into the market.
