[ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 05:26:52 02/14/08 Thu The Department of Transport has admitted it was wrong when it stated motorcycle road tax evasion was as high as 40% Under pressure from MAG, who challenged the claim, saying it was as irresponsible in stereotyping motorcyclists as law breakers, the DoT has released information that show the true levels of evasion at 6.5% - less than a fifth of the originally reported figure. MAG Campaigns Manager, David Short, says, "MAG does not condone in any way those who ride their bikes without tax. The overwhelming majority of bikers are law abiding and pay their dues as responsible citizens. It is therefore very galling when figures put out by government, as the public accounts committee did, that motorcycle VED evasion was up to 40% despite dubious methodologies used to arrive at this fantasy figure.
