Subject: Hampshire bike theft gang behind bars

 A seven-strong gang of bike thieves has been sentenced at Southampton Crown Court. The seven – described as ‘teenagers or young men’ would pose as bogus buyers and arrange viewings, only to return later to steal the bikes.

Police believe the total amount of the conspiracy involved sums of between £80,000 and £90,000, although many of the stolen vehicles and other property were later recovered. Police Officers traced mobile phone signals which put some gang members at the scene of the burglaries.

Speaking after the case, Detective Constable Scott Lymbery, said: “It is very satisfying to clear up so many crimes for which they were collectively responsible and this result shows that the hard work does pay off.”
