Date Posted: 12:07:12 04/04/09 Sat Birmingham’s ‘Spaghetti Junction’ has been named Britain’s ‘worst interchange’ in a survey undertaken by Autoglass. Officially named the Gravelly Hill Interchange, 45% of those surveyed voted for the labyrinth that connects a range of both major and minor roads to three motorways. In second place with 25% was Swindon’s ‘Magic Roundabout’ – where five mini-roundabout systems orbit another larger central roundabout to form a larger roundabout, with the central one rotating in a different direction to it’s satellites. 13% of the vote was for the Boreham Interchange. This interchange in Essex features five arms to the junction (four primary routes), it also has access routes to local roads and a service area – resulting in three often enormously-cluttered roundabouts. The Magic Roundabout was previously voted 3rd worst junction on Earth in a 2007 survey held by Auto Express, behind the I-710/-105 interchange in Los Angeles and the A9 in Shanghai. Spaghetti junction trailed in at a lowly 9th. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
