Date Posted: 05:13:25 04/11/09 Sat Motorcyclists in Plymouth are to have permanent use of bus lanes, following a successful pilot scheme. During the 18 month trial by Plymouth Council, an overall 36% reduction in serious accidents was recorded. On the two main bus lane corridors studied, in Exeter Street the casualty rate fell from eight to two and on the Tavistock Road serious injuries fell from two to zero. Plymouth bikers were also praised for their behaviour during the trial. Plymouth Countil road safety officer Tom Jenkins said: "Bikers have been heeding our advice about not using the bus lanes as ‘fast tracks’ to beat traffic queues and have been driving considerately and sensibly."
