Date Posted: 04:08:47 05/01/09 Fri A report by the Asphalt Industry Alliance claims UK road surfaces are so poor that motorists are faced with a pothole or crack every 120 yards on average. The report also claims that eight out of ten local authorities admit road conditions under their control pose a threat to road users’ safety. Almost 800,000 potholes were filled in during 2008 – 80,000 of those in London alone. London has a much worse pothole per yard average at one per 36 yards. Oxfordshire bikers enjoy a much safer experience, as the AIA survey names them as the county with the lowest average and just 4% of damage to vehicles being attributed to road conditions.
