Date Posted: 05:23:13 06/22/09 Mon Scottish courier company Eagle Couriers is considering legal action, as a local council refuses to give their bikes the same status as delivery drivers using vans and trucks. Jerry Stewart, director of Eagle Couriers said that one of their couriers was given a £60 ticket. He parked the bike in a motorcycle bay… but part of the bike encroached onto a loading bay – only goods vehicles may use this. Mr Stewart added : "Our bikes are classed as goods vehicles for insurance, so we're disappointed the wardens have targeted us. We carry out hundreds of jobs in Glasgow every day and our drivers have to stop outside offices to deliver goods. We clearly cause less hassle than a van or truck, but still get penalised heavily just for trying to do our job." A council spokesman said "Eagle Couriers is well aware the council does not consider its bikes to be goods vehicles and, crucially, the Scottish Parking Appeals Service agrees with us."
