Date Posted: 05:34:50 10/19/09 Mon Harley-Davidson has announced that production of their sideline company, Buell, is coming to an end. The company said in a statement that they are looking to a long-term strategy to “drive Company growth through a focus of efforts and resources on the Harley-Davidson® brand.” Buell chairman Erik Buell said “I will always be proud of what we have accomplished. It is a testimony to what a small group of passionate and inspired people can do, and with brilliant innovations, we’ve produced some of the best-handling bikes of all time.” Mr Buell will remain with Harley-Davidson. Harley-Davidson has also put up for sale the MV Agusta brand, only purchased last year. No firm buyer has been announced as yet, but rumours of an Italian consortium, as well as Chinese interest are doing the rounds. The decision to pull out of the sportsbike market follows news of ongoing financial issues at Harley. Their Q3 financial statement shows sales down 21% and net income dropped by a worrying 84% in the third quarter of 2009 [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
