Date Posted: 03:43:34 04/19/11 Tue Westminster Council will continue to charge bikers £1 per day to park, after an appeal against the original court decision in July 2010 failed. Ruling in the case, Lord Justice Maurice Kay, sitting with Lady Justice Smith and Lord Justice Moore-Bick, said: "It is common ground that increasing demand, if evidentially well-founded, would justify charging. It is the obvious way to dampen excess demand." Warren Djanogly, founder of the ‘No To Bike Parking Tax’ campaign claimed the action was “Not over yet”, adding that the campaign is now considering taking the case to the European Court of Appeal. Westminster Council made the on-street charge permanent in January 2010 following a pilot scheme. The charges range from £1 for a single day’s parking to £100 for an annual permit.
