...I agree with your perception that his cell-mate will exact 'punishment to fit the crime'. I've found through some investigation that in US prisons, the child molesters and rapists are quartered separately from the rest of the murderers and other criminals. Why? Because many of the prisoners have children or wives or girlfriends or sisters on the 'outside' - and the mortality rate of child molesters and rapists in prison was getting rather high. If you read the stats of the prisoners who die in prison riots, it's usually all the molesters and rapists. What a coincidence.

I get rather Robert Heinlein-ish regarding recidivist "life sentence" criminal convictions. Forget prisons, send 'em to 'Purgatory' - wall off some countryside, guard it on the outside, and set 'em loose inside. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone with that, but if you prove that you can't live in society, then you should be removed to fend for yourself.
