Subject: This is kind of...interesting.

From a blogger who saw Stripped:

Dear Eddie Izzard,

Editing wikipedia....waiting for your mac to update itself and then noticing no freaking difference afterwards....realizing that NO ONE has ever read the iTunes agreement all the way through....This is comedy. Your opinion on issues such as politics & religion, while they may be comedy, they are just that: your opinion. Did I pay money so that you could ridicule things I believe in, such as God & creationism? Did I pay $60 after ticketbastard charges so that YOU could try and convince me of your unresearched opinions? Well, I guess I DO have to give you slight credit. You did offer a disclaimer where you said that you did most of your research through the "telly." Greeeeat. Since I don't watch TV hardly at ALL, this makes ME think that you 1) have a lot of time on your hands, and 2) don't bother doing much else than watching TV...and....generating a comedy routine from it. Seriously?

I'd seen your DVDs...listened to your CDs...and you were genuinely FUNNY....when you spoke about pop culture or generic history, even American history! Prehistoric history and God: not really topics that I enjoy being preached to about. Oh, excuse me....you wouldn't agree with the word "preaching," would you? For someone who uses the "golden rule" as their life's philosophy, you sure don't take it seriously. Would YOU like it if I put down YOUR views? Hmm. Think on that one for a hot minute.

Not to mention the acoustics in the place SUCKED. I guess DAR Constitution Hall is better for music acts than for comedians. And I guess old school Eddie Izzard is the stuff I'm going to stick to, if I ever really feel like listening to you again. You just...weren't funny. (even though people were, surprisingly, laughing) Just...not....funny. Tell jokes, not opinions, and maybe I'll give you another chance. But not likely.

God has a sense of humor, but no one likes being made mocked.

Lionsgate to Release Larry Charles/Bill Maher Anti-Religion Documentary

Posted on Friday, July 13th, 2007 at 2:51 am by: Peter Sciretta

We’re really excited about this one. Someone has finally acquired US distribution rights to the Larry Charles/Bill Maher anti-Religion documentary. From what I understand footage from the film was shown at Cannes in an attempt to nab a buyer. The footage was said to be amazing, but most studios were afraid to make a move due to the controversial nature of the doc. Not much is known about the film. This is Charles first project since directing Borat. Maher promises that “this movie will make you laugh so hard you’ll pray for it to stop.” Lionsgate hopes to expand into 1,000 screens with this release which makes me wonder if it is expected to have that much mass appeal. The film has been hyped as “Borat” meets “Fahrenheit 9/11.”

When it was first announced, the documentary was described as “examining the presence of religion in many of the big news stories of recent years, from Muslim riots over cartoons to the Ten Commandments in front of courthouses, a born-again Christian in the White House and Scientology in the birthing room.” “Is religion an obsessive-compulsive disorder?” asks Charles, who bills his movie as “Bill Maher vs. the Anti-Christ (or is Bill Maher the Anti-Christ?)”

I just saw George Carlin again recently. He's kicked it up a notch. Whole new act, up to date, topical, knew his shit. Cellphones, texting, myspace, God, everything. I expcted to see the terribly bitter, nasty man I saw last time. I didn't. He was terribly funny.
-- Bry... Carlin is 70 now. I hope Eddie finds his groove again before then., 05/ 7/08 2:08am

[> From what I've seen of Eddie's recent material, he's opinionated for sure, but he isn't demeaning or rude. If you can't stand to have your faith questioned, are you sure it's faith? And are you sure you want to pay to see someone who questions EVERYTHING as their act? She has only herself to blame for her bad time, I think. Sense of humor is so personal, tho'. I agree with Jimmy Carr that it's like sexual orientation - you can't help liking what you like and not liking what you don't -- annette, 05/ 6/08 3:26pm

[> [> I would say the same, that she needs to lighten up, but the fact that she likes his old material means she does have some sense of humor. I can understand where she's coming from, I remember him making jokes about baseball, and I was thinking, would he think it was funny if an American comedien was doing jokes about rugby or soccer, kinda pissed me off -- Amy, 05/ 6/08 3:54pm

[> [> [> I think it's true that everyone has their sensitive spots, and most people can dish it out better than they can take it, Eddie included most likely. I'm surprised, though, that this person is just now getting offended because he's taking the piss out of Creationism. She's OK with making fun of churches, religious leaders, religious practices like hymns and holidays, jokes about Jesus...but don't point out that there was a long stretch of volcanos and dinosaurs before humans came on the scene? Seems a weird topic to stand one's ground on. Takes all kinds, I guess. -- annette, 05/ 6/08 4:11pm

[> [> [> [> [> This new mania of Creationism and the evilan-er-Evangelicals just fries my brain!!!I have a set of children's encyclopedias from 1912,& the differnt volumes contain many interesting facts & photos & illustrations about cycles of nature and creatures and planets and what have you,and the expected Bible stories and Christmas & holiday things,WONDERFUL spooky Halloween stuff with no concern that it is 'of the Devil'-and all the latest up to the minute info on fossils & dinosaurs, with no suggestion that all were created together 2000 years ago, like those "...who believe the Flintstones is a documentary....",to quote the inimitable Lewis Black... -- Gaby, 05/ 6/08 6:38pm

[> Everyone's sense of humor is different depending on their mood, and what they may have going on in their lives at the moment. Sometimes what's funny to me one day, isn't as funny the next. Or the exact opposite~what isn't funny one day, will crack me up a few days later when i think about it. Maybe she went to see Eddie on a off day?.... -- Ellie, 05/ 6/08 6:18pm

[> [> [> Not to pick on you in particular, dahlink!Just by way of saying hello... These creationists(trying to be respectful so I deleted "cuckoo-birds")need to take the tour of a cave somewhere and learn how slowly stalactites are formed by water dripping and depositing an infinitesimal ring of limestone on top of the last...but then I guess they would just say,but those big ones over there were all formed on the same day by Jesus right after the loaves and fishes thing... and no, I was not alive in 1912.But I am beginning to feel like I was. -- Gaby, 05/ 6/08 7:03pm
