Registration doesn't work on the new forum yet, asks for image verification which doesn't actually exist. Apart from that it looks well organised and I look forward to posting.

Hrmm, ok I'll adjust so image verification isn't set. I do remember clicking that option.
I'd like to get some ppl registered, seeing as the forum doesn't work without participants!

Thanks.

oh hey, i wasn't even looking at these messages.
looks like the forum is up and running again.
the problem was the format i applied by default didn't allow the CAPTCHA image to be displayed for authentication.
it also didn't provide an for text for that CAPTCHA image.

In my opinion, this forum would see a lot more use and be a lot more useful if it were made into something more akin to EZboards (only example I can think of). Something with organization and a nice search function.

Maybe these things cost money or take too much time to set up.. I have no clue. Just my 1 cent.

Well I could change the forum if someone found a free phpBB type board. But really I think the problem is most people don't want to share their secrets, so they don't talk to much here.

I don't know how many secrets I have -- but I'd certainly be willing to add what I know from many years of on and off playing to a forum organized by zones, spell drops, rolling, quests, etc.

My personal reason for not adding much is honestly because this forum is kinda junk and I always figured whatever I'd come up no one would bother drudging through everything for.

That said I'd like to praise you and your site though; it is very interesting indeed. Obviously there is some nice information here and some people adding valuable info (the Northern Ergoth quests, for example -- very nice!)

One of my friends recommended http://www.greatboard.com/ for a decent free board. Doing a little google search there are a lot of sites, and I wish I could tell you which would be the best. If anyone has any experience with free phpBB boards and can make a good recommendation, please speak up.

Thanks for the tip.

I need to find one that is private and on solid ground, ie not likely to go belly up the next month. I'll give it a look this weekend hopefully.

OK, I've got a phpBB forum setup.
I'm going to keep this running, and first transfer all the messages into that forum.
I'll post a message when it's ready for use.

There's a pile of pick/disable practice to be had in that town over by Crimson Castle on Northern Ergoth. Look for houses with merchants in them .. there are safes and chests in these houses, all of which are trapped.

Once you pick the lock, use the keys on the merchants to lock them; then pick again! =)

I made a pick trainer for tarsis and i don't think this is
posted on the 'wintin scripts' page, so here it is:

#nop from the room with the board in tarsis (posting board) cost of this is 60mvs
#alias {picktarsis} {n5w3s;open door e;enus;pick wardrobe;open wardrobe;get all wardrobe;ndss;pick hutch;nww;open gate;ww;open door;ww;open door;wde;pull bracket;e;close door;d;pick door n;pick door e;pick door w;pick door s;u;open door;w;pull bracket;wssuu;open panel;n;pick trunk;open trunk;get all trunk;open door;n;pick drawer;ssddnnu6e3n5es}

load that up and type 'picktarsis' when you're in the correct room as shown by the comment (#nop) and you get to pick quite a few doors.

Post your new book discoveries as a reply to this.
use the book name as the title, and possibly a hyphen followed by the mob name you loaded it from

Anyone able to list the various items used by Boras to forge equipment. I know what several of the end results are, but not how to pop most of the items. I've heard some of the items rarely load. Anyone able to shed some light on this since the quest is incredibly vauge?

For example, pan pipe and a bit of wire are components.
A piece of oaken heartwood - rare load(and hidden deep).
Try to find other components by yourself, it is very easy.
I have 3 metals and 18 components for Boras in my list (end up in 35 different weapons, most of them are crap), however I still can't find how to make semi-elite weapons like 3d5+3+3 or 2d6+3+3 with specials.

Here's a table of what I know. Not sure how the HTML stuff will look, but gonna give it a try. How do these compare to what you've seen?

I had heard rumors of other weapons. Heartwood bow, staff of the loremaster, etc. Just had never seen these made or even anyone wielding such a weapon. Other rumors were that the deity symbols and the rings of lore could be used, but never had any success using those.

Yep, gold nugget loads on the ixtplawhatever dragon. It's not 100% load.

Didn't see a heads up on other components. Anyone have any success using other materials from Northern Ergoth for weapons? The thing I'm most curious about are the holy symbols. We had found seven. Two good align: Habbakuk and Kiri-Jolith. Three neutrals: Chislev, Shinare, and Zivilyn. Two evils: Hiddukel and Takhisis. If there are more we haven't seen them load. Seems likely that these can be used somehow?

Well I know those can be used as autolights. If you take them and bless them they will glow and cast light into the room. I know the takhisis one is a quest item that you can bring to the newport king, drop at his feet and get a reward. I'm not sure if they have a third use as a component as it takes too long to get any of these things piled together.

Btw, anyone ever find a use for the Orb the Wyrm by Crimson has? I've only noticed it for selling. Heard it was once a wand, but dont think it is now.

Anyone have a script for these already for wintin? I had an email request for one but I've never had one lying around. It wouldn't be too hard to write one but i'm busy these days so it could be a while before I write one.

The auto-assist I would write would go something like this.

you write actions for
#action {%1 slashes %2} {#var {tempvar} {$2};domatch}
and do this for 'crushes' 'bludgeons' etc.
those are all used in the wb32 file, and probably wb21 on the wintin script page. so just copy paste.
then the alias 'checkrescue' would look through a list of players that you want to auto-rescue. you could set this up in a group, and entering them in a certain order would establish priority of rescuing in a fighht. the variable 'tempvar' will take the contents of the players name and that is used by the alias. I treat aliases often as procedures or functions.

the alias' would then be.
#alias {domatch} {#match {output} {torescue} {$temp} {1};checkrescue}
#alias {checkrescue} {#if {($output=1)} {dorescue} else {#nop};#var}
#alias {dorescue} {#if {($time>$lastrescue)} {rescue $temp;#var {lastrescue} {$time}} else {#nop}}

#var {torescue} {Mikey, John, Morgion}
#var output {0}
#var lastrescue {0}

you can use the push function to build the torescue variable, and just write a few actions to do it inline in wintin while playing. you can use #showme to get some output on what is actually happening.

that bit with the time should prevent you from trying to rescue more than one person per round. (wintin has a minimum time resolution of the $time variable of 1 second, and $time is a built in variable, so don't try to set it to anything unless you know what you're doing)

If anyone out there knows Daltigoth, I could really use some help. I've got through most of the zone and the temple, but I can't figure out how, after the spins, to reach it. Any hint would be great or leave an email and I'll give some other good game info in exchange for it. thnx

When I say "it" I mean the dragon at the end of the zone.

can anyone help me out as to where this loads? any other cleric spells would be helpful, too. Do clerics still get cone? I haven't played one in a while and it seems like their spells are nowhere near as effective as a mage's.

Yeah druids still get cone.
check on the 'misc info' page for info on spell loads.
there is some info there. check some places out and write back here if you can't find anything.
you usually have to hit up a mob dozens of times to get anything of course, it's still a pain in the ass

Yeah it looks like i never put it in. I think the original sources for that data were lacking or just not compiled very well. It's in my mind, but i never really played druids much anyway. You can read all of the 'maps' files, many of them contain zone contents listed at the bottom of the file somewhere, so if it loads a tablet it should be listed. For instance in vry kith there is at least one tablet that loads after the king/queen in the secret room to north (the key to which is loaded on the master druid in the random spin glade to west at the main level of the zone). That tab can be a variety of things, one of which is cone of cold (or used to be).

another trick is to go west of palanthas and just north after 4 or 5 west of the west gate, then north. there should be a thug there, give him 250 coins and he will let you in a special shop. in that shop you can buy scrolls of minor locate object (for all classes i think) and i think scrolls of locate object (for mages only i think), use those to help locate tablets (eg. rec scroll.minor.locate 'tablet'). Or if you have a mage with locate it makes it that much easier, but of course if you have a mage with locate there isn't much point playing a druid.

Anyone know a good mud client for a Mac OS X or better? A link would be great, but even a name would help. Currently I'm using Hydra Mud which doesn't allow triggers, aliases, etc.

well you've probably already seen the main google hits like
http://www.hsoi.com/mud/clients/
http://www.pure-mac.com/mud.html

I was thinking that now OS X is based on unix like grounds you might be able to run a version of tintin (maybe modified).

I remember the pre-OS X systems that ran on the mac would allow you to emulate windows to some degree. You might be able to run wintin95 in an emulator since it's a fairly compact program. That way you can use my scripts too if you wanted.

>druid to use? Im lvl 23 and seem to prefer pechs or
>stalkers... are there better ones to use... stronger?

for the standard ones you can get if i remember correctly

-sylph (damage special) (can_fly)
-sand (something) (blindness special)
-fire salamander? (burning special)
-fire snake (paralysis special)
-pech (high str warrior)
-invisible stalker (thief, poor hide, poor sneak, can_fly)
-water weird (some water based special)
-nereid (druid with spells) can_fly

that's sort of in order from crappiest to best. but the nereid and weird aren't much good really. the best is the stalker of course since it flys, goes invis, and is strong. the pech is good if you don't need invis.

with stones you can get better charmies. if you see coloured stones, they are likely conjurable. just type "cast 'conjure elemental' red.stone" for instance to create an elemental from a red stone you loaded or found. you can get very powerfull charmies this way, but the stones are often hard to find for the good charmies. And with these types of stones you're still limited to only 1 elemental charmie. if you get other stones that auto conjure, you can conjure by spell, then use those to double up.

how does one conjure something that's not a sylph? Is it just level that gets you the higher charmies? My druid's lvl 20 & still only gets sylphs.

Yeah, the better chearmies come more often at higher levels.
when you're level 25 or so you'll be able to get stalkers more consistantly.

Subject: Script Additions

Ok, I updated the script page. I've added several things:
***Wintin Bot v32 (very fast, with minute instability)
***Wintin Bot v21 (highly polished revision of the old bot)
**wb32helpfile (more help than was on the script page for bots)
**Tickset (wintin script to insert the tick counter into your status bar)
**Dkhelp (dk helper script that can track gaze, drain, nightvision decay timers while you play along with many substitutes)

If you've run the bot before, run wb32 it will blow your mind (it can move up to 4 rooms per second). Make sure you follow the 'rules' outlined in the new helpfile. Just wear a pack and have a chest with the right things in it. Most of the help is there in the helpfile, some is in the output that shows up when you load the script into wintin. Of course going Opt deaf and typing #var mes before loading the bot is virtually necessary still.

Any problems, feel free to voice them in the channel. Although i'm not playing anymore I'll happily debug most small problems you may have related to the bots, and creating new maps for the bots.

I just realized I didn't include the pathmaker that I used in the latest versions. Nothing much has changed but I'll post it here anyway.

#alias {n} {north;#math {count} {$count+1};#debug {#alias {DEL$$count} {n}};addit DEL$$count}
#alias {e} {east;#math {count} {$count+1};#debug {#alias {DEL$$count} {e}};addit DEL$$count}

#nop new stuff below

#alias {done} {#debug {$pathstring}}
#alias {addit %0} {#push {$pathstring} {%%0}}
#nop =================================================

just remember that if you go through a door, if it's not open you should type the open command anyway. and if you go back throught he door make sure to type the open command (while you make the map). this will put the command in the debug output, and you need to add that to the next movement that you make (make sure you use the open command BEFORE you make the move through the door, that way you know to always add the command before the move, like : {open door e;e} ). You'll also want to change DEL to something else of course.

By the way, I setup a script to run the delphon loop that's located in the wb32 and use the 'delphonrent' command at 1 hour intervals between the loops (using windows built in scripting capabilities wscript.exe) and made an average of about 20k steel coins per day while I was out at work.

>can someone post up the all the druid guildmasters??
>Anyone know the one in flotsom?

Go 2s of the south gate of flotsam, then type down (unless you fall first). There is an aggro mob in that room that has an acid special, it doesn't detect invisible. Then you need to move the stone to east of you, the keyword is move, shift, or something like that. Then there are two aggro and one non aggro mobs before the guildmaster. Be invis and there is no problem, if you attack one of the mobs the guildmaster will then be aggro to you. He teaches that food for a day spell and some other junk.

There are some other hidden guildmasters that i know of. about 12w of pal west gate, then south some there is a hidden guildmaster past a false wall. WN of the entrance to kendermore from brightfield is a guildmaster. South of the road between Tarsis and the barbarian camp is a guildmaster. To get to this one you have to pass the well in lantern as you head east from tarsis, go south a few, past some horses, then east at the fire. you'll hit a dead end. To get into the guildmaster type 'enter tree' or 'enter trees'. At that same location you can 'enter caravan' to get to a mob that's not aggro. There is a hidden guildmaster in delphon in the cactus at the NE part of the park, you have to enter the cactus.
There are more of course.

I haven't played in months, and don't expect to play again anytime soon. I'm thinking about posting the latest bot versions (that are much better than version 10) and scripts. So check the main page over the next few months.

Yeah, but I'll only exchange such information for other similar information, particularly druid components.

I tried some methods like previous wipe, but they don't work consistantly.
you hold items in your inventory and get some idea of your dex, but its like +/- some random factor.
but i think it still gives a general idea.
like having over 23 items on a thief when rolling it.
class may be a factor in the change

Subject: signet ring?

Author:

I found the signet ring in the draconian outpost near kalaman, beyond the sivak draconian. I hear this when he is freed.

"As you free Teran from his confinements, he rises and pauses then offers
you a word of thanks. He pauses slightly then retrieves a small object from
within a hidden fold in his clothes. He whispers to you "return this object
to me when I have returned home and a just reward will be given. I am
saddened that I have nothing to offer you now. To enter my homeland go
north from Kalaman. The ocean will be difficult to navigate, but hopefully
Paladine will guide your path."
"There is one more thing I must tell you. Another of our brethren was
captured by the dragonarmies, but the officers here feared him and sent
him away to a stronghold of the dragonarmies on the eastern coast of
Southern Ergoth. Do what you can to help him, I beg of you."
With that being said he places a small object into your hand, then slowly
shapechanges into a draconian and walks from the room.
"

I headed out north of Kalaman into the ocean. when i get to the deep ocean, i can look up and see the constelations, so a look paladine shows me directions. I can follow these to get to the irda it seems, but im not sure where to "return" this ring. any clues there?

Yeah, you have to trade some things in there I think to get an item that you then trade for swag of some sort. It might be in the descrip of some of the mobs.
I have a log somewhere but it only starts halfway through that.

There's a quest in Palanthas that I haven't been able to figure for the last few
wipes now. Figure someone out there knows it.

A wandering herbalist smiles warmly at you and begins speaking.
"My travels have taken me all over Krynn. I have seen many fascinating
places and met many interesting people. Some of them have shared their
stories with me," he says, a fond expression on his face as he reminisces.
"One story in particular stands out in my mind. I once met an old dwarven
cleric who told of a powerful spell that could pardon one's sins. He even
gave me the recipe for brewing a potion of that spell." The herbalist pats
one of his pockets as he speaks. "However, I was never able to obtain the
necessary components. I have heard rumors as to their locations, but I am
far too old to attempt to find them. If you were to bring me the
components, I would love to try my hand at brewing this concoction," he
says with a smile.
"In case you are interested," the herbalist continues, "The first of the
components, a piece of cinchona bark, is said to be in the possession of
the dragonarmies in the flying citadel. Bring me the cinchona bark, and I
will tell you where you can find the next component."

There's a similar quest for Dark Knights in Balifor, gathering the following stuff:
'a handful of burdock roots' from Pitch Steeltoe in Garnet
'some alfalfa sprouts' from Commander Gamso in Solamnic Encampment
'a rosemary leaf' from the village shaman in Cloud Kingdom

With all three components, 'present leaf' gets you evil-only atonement potion.

Searched the Flying Citadel pretty well. Only areas that weren't checked were
Drake the dark druid (yeeouch) and the locked room up from the darkened room
mage.

Any completed this quest yet?

Hope this totally clears things up...

Alignment change tutorial
------------------------------------------

Arctic has 10 different alignments,

GL = Good Lawful
GC = Good Chaotic
GN = Good Neutral
NG = Neutral Good
NL = Neutral Lawful
NC = Neutral Chaotic
NE = Neutral Evil
EN = Evil Neutral
EL = Evil Lawful
EC = Evil Chaotic

It's possible to move through the alignment system, but only one step at a time.

GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC

Thus, a NG rolled char can become GN or NL, depending on which direction
their 'soul' is moving. This is revealed with 'know alignment'

xxx has a strong white aura around his soul. <- Char is leaning towards good
xxx has a grey aura around his soul. <- Neutral
xxx has a strong black aura around his soul. <- Char is leaning towards evil

The trick then is to track down the alignment changer of the sphere you're trying
to move into. They are listed here:

GL = A priest of Paladine has a pure soul, with good intentions. (Near Palanthas clerics guild)
GC = A disciple of Habbakuk's soul is in turmoil, but it is yet pure. (NW corner of Kalaman park)
GN = A monk of Majere's soul shines slightly with elements of purity. (SE corner of Solace reading room)
NG = A disciple of Chislev's soul shines slightly with elements of purity. (East of Caergoth, off of highway)
NL = A young disciple of Shinare has a balanced soul. (Outside W gate of Tarsis)
NC = A priest of Gilean's soul is in turmoil, having no direction. (E side of Hopeful)
NE = A disciple of Sirrion's soul is slightly tinged with shades of darkness. (NE from Pasal in Newport)
EN = A withered servant of Morgion's soul is slightly tinged with shades of darkness. (2n of Balifor Thieve's guild)
EL = A dark acolyte of Takhisis has a dark soul, with dark intentions. (Neraka, southern part of temple)
EC = A servant of Hiddukel's soul is in turmoil, but it is yet dark. (Delphon, S from bank)

Note also the message revealed by 'know alignment' for each of these. These
can help determine a mob or chars alignment.

Race and Guild restrictions apply to which alignments a char can shift to.
Example: A Goblin can never be more good than NL, and a Ranger cannot move
from GN to NG or lower.

Gnome = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Goblin = NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Half-elf = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
High elf = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Hill dwarf = GL <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL
Human = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Hylar dwarf = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL
Kender = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Minotaur = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Theiwar dwarf = NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Wild elf = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC

Barbarian = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Cleric = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Dark Knight = EN <-> EL <-> EC
Druid = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Mage = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Paladin = GL
Thief = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
Ranger = GL <-> GC <-> GN
Warrior = GL <-> GC <-> GN <-> NG <-> NL <-> NC <-> NE <-> EN <-> EL <-> EC
