] Date Posted: 13:38:35 04/23/07 Mon In reply to: Old git 's message, "Politics" on 11:42:38 04/23/07 Mon I was born on a council estate. My mother died when I was six years old, leaving my father to bring up me, my three brothers, and a sister. He was unable to work for years, beause of an illness which left him in constant pain. Without National Assistance, and other benefits, the family would probably have foundered. In my view life for most of us has improved greatly over the past sixty years - certainly there has been greater social mobility than ever before in our history; all to the good in my book. Date Posted: 14:29:10 04/23/07 Mon I know that this forum is not political as such but it is good to hear that people do appreciate the hard won reforms that have been won by Labour. Whilst things may seem difficult at present for Labour I for one will continue to keep the faith in the belief that it has a set of core values which puts people first. Returning to the original message, whenever I have needed the NHS for my children they have been there. Last weekend I phoned up NHS Direct about a problem my young son had and they arranged for a call back from a Doctor and an appointment was made for him straight away. The service was simply second to none and I'm pleased the NHS and those who work in it care so much about providing a good service. |

Date Posted: 02:02:16 04/24/07 Tue I am delighted that James got satisfactory treatment for his son. My own observations suggest that the workers in the NHS are struggling to provide a service. That is not their fault. Generally speaking, I have 'kept the faith' for fifty years, though heart and mind, as at present, have at times clashed. I wholeheartedly concur with Laurence's comment on what has been achieved over sixty years under various governments. Thanks to both for posts which give food for reflection. |
