] Date Posted: 09:28:42 04/24/07 Tue In reply to: Greg 's message, "Re: Politics" on 08:06:38 04/24/07 Tue '...economic migrants that just use this country as a cash cow' I wonder what all those Brit builders and bar owners are doing in Spain? Greg's diatribe is full of bile, but short on evidence - all as usual. But, also as usual, the Tories plan to spend more and tax less. I bet Greg has evidence for that. Date Posted: 10:56:42 04/24/07 Tue Greg, your sharp humour signals an alert mind. Consider: LibDems idea of a local income tax to make Council rates fairer? You MIGHT, if you are well-paid, pay a little more, but your retired mum, gran etc; (and I) :-), might pay less. That is not to say I wll vote LibDem next time, but that one idea must surely be worth consideration? |

Also worth considering I pay enough as it is and most of it is wasted on civil servants and red tape. Perhaps if they run their finances better and more people got off of their arse to contribute rather than take, we could ALL be better off. |

Date Posted: 04:40:41 04/25/07 Wed Greg I have spent my life voting against selfishness, but as my last years/days arrive, and I have scarcely ever been out of work, or even sick, I find myself almost agreeing. Having said that, if statistics are to be believed, there are less people than ever unemployed. So, genuine question, who are all these people who should get off their arses? |

Date Posted: 08:37:47 04/25/07 Wed The current goverment seems to make it all to easy for people to claim benefits because they have a bad toe or decide their career should be to produce a batch of chav kids who will in turn produce their own batch at a tender age. They will also then have no intention of working because why should they, after all their great grandfathers budgie paid tax working down the mines so they have done their part for society!!! |

Date Posted: 01:31:37 04/25/07 Wed James My evidence is based on living in the real world. Perhaps you should make the trip one day you blinkered mug. And your question about people in Spain, I would think that most of them work or put a good deal of money into the local economy not take Spanish benefits or work and send the money home to England. |

Date Posted: 09:28:04 04/25/07 Wed How come money is wasted on red tape, but the government makes it all too easy to claim benefits?. Presumably, no red tape in claiming benefits... And, why not let someone else do a job that you do not wish to do? Good Tory principle, surely? |

Date Posted: 10:03:49 04/25/07 Wed Under the Tory proposals, they will freeze civil service recruitment, remove 235,000 bureaucratic posts, and cut or abolish 168 public bodies this saving by end of year 2008 a predicted 12 BILLION pounds. I THINK THATS WHAT GREG MEANS ABOUT CUTTING RED TAPE!!!!!!!!!! Hard-working families have suffered from Labour’s tax raids on mortgages, pensions, petrol, buying a home, inheritance tax and above all having a JOB. It now costs just too much to live in what was once a great England under this Labour government.....no wonder good people have packed up and left!!!! |

Date Posted: 10:50:59 04/25/07 Wed Presumably the hard working families getting tax credits (which in effect subsidise poorly paying employers)are different from your 'hard working' families? Remember the guy with the big mop of hair at the Tory conference, spilling a computer printout over the platform as he promised to get rid of red tape. Whatever happened to him? What happened to the red tape? Remember, too, a 'bureaucratic post' isn't necessarily a job. |

Date Posted: 04:11:19 04/26/07 Thu So the benefits system is the only government department now is it? There are countless and most are so tied up in red tape they don't get anything done and just waste money. If the government and councils were run efficiently like a good business, you could probably cut everyone’s tax in half. They make a decision, then have a action group to discuss the decision, then the action groups management group make a decision then the department manager reviews the decision then the head of department authorises the decision, then it goes to appeal and thats just to get an extra bin put into a park. This government is the worst for wasting our money but none of the parties are perfect just not as bad. Unfortunately, local councils are also very good at complete financial incompetence. But anyway back to my previous point, there are far to many people that claim benefits who should be made to get off of their arse and work like the rest of us. Yes I’m afraid it is true some people are lazy wasters SHOCK HORROR and Labour just loves this type of tosser. |

Date Posted: 07:10:33 04/26/07 Thu There's only one thing for it, Greg - you should get yourself elected and show us all how easy it all is. I expect you're also pretty good at deciding on new drugs to licence and which scientific research projects to give money to. While you're at it, you could work out how education should be run. Sack lazy teachers, perhaps. Decide admissions policies. Bring back the cane, birch, flogging, hanging. That should sort out the chavs. 'Some people are lazy wasters' - they most certainly are. There always have been SOME people like this. Always have been and always will. Still, you'll be able to sort out the deserving from the undeserving. Specially all those people with so called 'back trouble'. Far too many people who claim benefits? I thought there was a problem with elderly folk NOT claiming benefits to which they are entitled. |

Date Posted: 08:18:49 04/26/07 Thu I know I would do a good job, but unfortunately I have not got the patience to deal with the morons that infest local government. You sound like you would be perfect for the position and would surely rise to Mayor in no time. On the issue of scientific research I must admit I have little knowledge of this field so won't go into it, don't know where you got that one from? I also have not commented on teachers being lazy wasters. What I will say is that to many schools are breading grounds for badly behaved chavs with no respect for anyone. This is the fault of the system and parents. You sarcastically suggest that I would condone the cane..how right you are but I suppose your all for a great big hug and a holiday for poor little Billy who assaulted the teacher. After all they are only misunderstood! Labour trying make everyone equal is utter rubbish, people take advantage of this and think why should I work when I can pump out another sprog and play a game of guess the father who is busy filling out the next benefit form in between the betting slip for the 3.15 at Plumpton. Stick your social working limp wristed attitude up your arse, they are part of the reason why this country is going down the pan. Nothing like a nice lively political debate, religion next week. |

Date Posted: 01:50:21 04/27/07 Fri With regard to badly behaved 'chavs', and the responsibility of the system and parents; - as children learn from what they see and hear, a quick glance at some of the threads on this message board will certainly reveal plenty of examples of rough language and personal abuse. Copy it, and it's easy to see why we have an increasing coarseness of expression in everday discourse and interaction. But, it's always someone else to blame. |

Date Posted: 23:34:59 04/28/07 Sat You, Gregg and Matt are all completely wrong and misguided. If you want to return to the hate filled years of the Tories where 2 million were unemployed and we had disastrous mishandling of the economy you are all a sad lot of individuals. The last 10 years have seen a massive increase in the wealth of this country and we have all benefited from this. If you cannot see that then you are going round with your eyes closed. |

No wonder no British people wnt low paid jobs, it because the benefit system is a nice little career move these days. 'Hate filled Tories' A pathetic exaggeration / lie if I've ever heard one. |

Date Posted: 11:56:48 04/30/07 Mon Ooops, wrong again, Greg. Laurence actually wrote 'If you want to return to the hate filled years of the Tories...' Not at all the same as ''Hate filled Tories''. You put it in quotes, too. However, that's just a teeny bit of spin, I guess. Of course, Laurence may have meant to say what you say he said, but he did not actually say it... |
