If you still want to go to Harveys Cross I will take you there (with my dog) at a mutually convenient time. Takes about one hour from Bannings Vale where I live and is approx three miles. The Cross which was renewed a year or so ago has been damaged by vandals again so it is not in pristine condition.

This was the name of a farm that lay at the back of Saltdean valley leading into the downs.I was brought up in the area before and during the war. There may be a cross there but i cant' remember it.

I think I've cycled past it a month or so ago. Does it have that stunning farm house ruin behind it? I think it look absolutly marvellous in the summer sunshine (the farm house that is). Anyone know who owns it?

Park at the football ground at top of Saltdean Vale. Turn right up the hill along the path, bushes give way about half way up to open fields. Continue to the top when you get to another fence going left to right. Turn left here and keep going. Harvey's Cross is about a mile or two along this track, you can't miss it. I can't remember the exact story but Harvey was a chap from a neighbouring town who was riding over the downs to Saltdean when he fell off his horse and hit his head. He died and the family erected the cross. Sadly, idiotic, moronic, and acephalic vandals have attacked it over the years despite its having been refurbished a few years back. It's studded by airgun shots and a piece of the cross is missing. What I'd like to do to these thugs if ever I was lucky enough to catch them....
