We are currently looking to move to the area and as we live overseas in USA can only look online at the moment. Was looking for some honest critic on the suitabilty of the area for thirty somethings and any recommendations of the different areas of Saltdean and where would be a preferable place to look. We have been looking at a few properties around Lenham Road East, any info would be great!!! Thankyou!

Hi guys,

Easy to understand why you would want to move over from the US back to the UK.
As a general rule, West Saltdean (west of Longdrige avenue)is governed by Brighton Council and therefore rather more prone to chavism. As for East Saltdean . . white color lower middle class, everyone say Good morning whilst going for a walk along the seafront, very British indeed. Not quite 'the prisoner' but you will love it, houses slightly dearer though.
Brighton isn't very far at all (6 miles) and will offer anything you may wish (England at its best)
After a night out, come back to Saltdean and chill for the rest of the weekend, heaven may I say . .

I moved with my family three years ago to Saltdean and could not imagine living anywhere else. Houses are back on the increase in England and would suggest now is an excellent time to purchase a property.

If you wish to see properties in saltdean Rightmove is a excellent site..

Great area for young families. Moved here in our 30s, and it is a fantastic place to bring up sprogs.

Not sure what the previous poster was banging on about east and west sides - the west side tends to be a bit more more expensive - but whichever bit you land in, it will definately be all good.

Agreed, Brad Spit's message is a bit garbled. The whole of Saltdean and most of the surrounding areas are great places to live.

It has in the past suffered a bit from local snobbism, with people looking down on the east side of Saltdean and neighbouring Telscombe Cliffs / Peacehaven. However, one great thing about the recession is that it seems to have taken the wind out of some people's sails and popped a few over inflated egos.

Thank god you don't have to listen to people bragging about how much positive equity they have in their homes, more seem to understand now that you should be grateful to have one, not glotaingly comparing it to other's.

So, to conclude it's a great place to live, lots to do - walking on the downs and beach right on your doorstep, Brighton a few miles away etc, etc and you Yanks will just love our Chips & Fish. ;-)

Saltdean is FABULOUS. We moved here two years ago and we researched all around Brighton and we wanted somewhere that we were walkabout to a beach but house prices were more affordable and all within easy reach of Brighton. Happy to say that Saltdean has fulfilled ALL criteria we had. Its lovely and peaceful yet a bus ride away to the craziness of Brighton. Its PERFECT. Go for it. You won't regret it.
