Hey there K. Ryan

I am a hockey fan from Southern California. I was not raised on hockey, nor any other sport, as hockey was not and still is not very popular here. Yet, in my mid-20's I became a HUGE hockey fan when I saw Bure skate in a game on TV. I had seen the King's play a few times and enjoyed the game, but never became big fan until I had a chance to see a game on TV (not a common occurrence on Cali TV) when a beautiful face, some huge blue eyes and red pouty lips flashed by the screen. I HAD to watch at that point to see what I thought I saw. An amazing player, and yes, I'm a girl, so naturally I thought he was beautiful. Yet, I saw him play, and nearly cried.

Nearly every time I had the chance to see Pavel play, whether live at a King's or Duck's game, even up to a Shark's game, or on a rare TV game, I was blown away. I became an addict, had to get my hands on anything Bure. Yeah, I had seen Gretzky play, saw Bure play against him in that important game in L.A. many years ago, but was not nearly as impresed as by young Bure.

His moves to Florida and New York were heartbreaking. Less games here in California, no Western Conference Bure news. His injuries were awful. I knew he would be gone too soon.

Yeah, he was a brat on the ice, but he got the job done. And after reading your request to have #10 retired, your words...coming from a life-long hockey fan who really knows what he's talking about, I was impressed that Bure impressed soemone like you, that you can get over the bad things you may have heard about him. He was beautiful on the ice, did his job, and did it well. Like you said, we will probably never see an athlete like him again. As for me, hockey just isn't the same any more. I don't see any players who thrill me the way he did.

Let's get that #10 retired!

Melissa
