Hello everyone, check this out! From years gone by...
Dad and the quartet used to sing this, I had no idea how long it had been around!

Subject: ANOTHER Warm Spot for the Singing Plainsmen

It hit me today that I should type in my father's name to see what he's been up to, but apparently he's been up to nothing. :)

Then I typed in "Singing Plainsmen", and I found this website! Hello to anyone who remembers me; I saw the names of several men I remember - Gene Passmore, Don Cotten, George Dawson (my jr. high shop teacher, if I remember right! Hi Mr. Dawson!), Mike Hensley, especially Len Webster (Hi len!). I wake up sometimes several mornings a month with "The Fat Girl Song" going though my head...

I saw a mention of some streaming video somewhere in this forum, but there aren't any links. I wonder if anyone has some oooold, ancient video of when Jay Caddel and I were still in the chorus at a few of the shows? Maybe even one of Dad's quartet singing "The Fat Girl Song" while they were chalking up Lowell? I'd be willing to pay for a copy!

One more thing - pictures. The Awards page has two, woefully small images on it. More pictures, bump up the size at least 2X from what they are now??

Good to see the Singing Plainsmen are still in business!
- Kelley

Effective 6/30/2008:
Due to the rash of spam postings, I have had to make this a moderated forum. Some people have absolutely no consideration of others.

When you submit a message, it will not be visible until it has been approved by me. In this way, any spam will be wasted effort, as no one will see it.

We need an inspiring picture posted on the web site. HMM... what could that be. Something involving men singing to beautiful women perhaps. Or maybe just some beautiful women swooning at a picture of us singing. Something different !!!

Managed to hook into some of the webcast video feed. Not Bad! Evidently there are a very large number of people logging in for this. The audio is not "top grade", but that is the way it is with streaming broadcasts. Very enjoyable.

Howdy Guys!!
Just loggged onto the SWD.org website and saw that you guys are slated to compete at the combined SW & NW Division contest in San Marcos. The Heart of Texas Chorus is my home chorus and we are hosting the competition. I am really excited about getting to see you guys on stage!! Hope everyone has a safe trip and we will see you in San Marcos soon!

Hey guys! Are you going to rejoin the Barbershop Webring? It's under new ownership. I just put CC's website on there.

We moved to LBB in 1971, and in the first couple of weeks I noticed a signboard at 50th and Indiana which advertised the Singing Plainsmen Chorus and said "Come Sing With Us Men." I told my wife I was going down there (Garden and Arts Center). She said "well if you go I want you to sing and not just stand around." Boy did she ever live to regret those words! I sang with the chorus until I left LBB in 1976. Directors: Jack Almack, John Anderson, Don Harrigan, Bob Leonard. Senior barbershoppers: Harry Delaney, J. Ray Dickey, Arch Lamb. Most fun: Division contest in Fort Worth (1972?)...Sunny Welch and Lloyd Thompson had a contest to see who could stay up the longest without sleep. Best friend: Gene Passmore. He put up with my snoring at more than one contest. Places where I've sung since leaving LBB: Shreveport; Potton, England (BABS); Fort Worth; San Antonio; a pick-up quartet which did several shows in Ankara, Turkey; Saffron Walden, England (BABS); and North Texas Men's Chorus in Wichita Falls (not affiliated with SPEBSQSA. Look forward to hearing Lubbock sing again real soon. Mike Bartley
