Back in the late 70's or so I happened to work at 1360 WIXZ McKeesport. One of my enduring memories was when Jack Wheeler was Hired to do mornings, after he was let go doing the same morning talk on 1080 WEEP.
His producer was a young man who knew his job well and a hard worker..he just happened to be by his own admission gay.
Telling Wheeler he was gay off the air was a bad miscalculation on the kids part.
In a next months Wheeler was so verbally and personally abusive to this kid that the kid told the PD that he could no longer work with Wheeler because he couldn't take the abuse any longer. A twenty something guy making minimum wage was sent packing by the "BIG STAR" Jack Wheeler.
From that time on I realized what type of person Wheeler was.....calling him egotistical would be a severe understatement.
He hated a lot of people for no reason that I could ever see.
Not getting along with a
Bill Cardille....yea, sure..because professionally Cardille was his equal and better in ALL respects.
