Murrow's cigarette was almost part of his image; he was a chain smoker and may not have been able to get through a broadcast without them. As for Mike Wallace, I think I remember him doing commercials at one point for some cigarette or other.

Slightly off topic, the Beatles all were heavy smokers (and, sadly, it caught up with George Harrison). Teenage fan magazines in their heyday had to tear up their rules about never showing teen idols with smokes because the Beatles simply weren't without their "ciggies" long enough to get a picture of them otherwise.
