I remember D-102 and thought that, as April Fool bits go, it was kind of lame, as if it didn't take a whole lot to throw the WDVE listener off and they dare not go TOO far.

As for Disco 96, it maybe should be pointed out that it wasn't a full-time format. It ran from 6 pm to 6 am weeknights and all weekend; the rest of the time was a simulcast of WTAE-AM. It replaced an automated version of the oldies-heavy AM format in those hours, and when 96KX launched, it was also an evening and weekend-only format the first few months. When 96KX went live, it also went full-time ... or almost, as FM still simulcast O'Brien and Garry initially.

(Similarly, the early, automated AOR incarnation of KQV-FM simulcast Harry West. When it became WDVE and switched from taped to live local jocks, the first morning show was a TALK SHOW with Carolyn Smith!)
