Right, WTAE-FM kept those calls until early 1977 when it became WXKX. I believe Disco 96 was stereo, but WTAE-FM was still in mono when it carried the automated oldies during non-simulcast hours, if I remember correctly.

The first station to really seize the disco sound when it was still just emerging from the club scene was KQV in its final year or so as a music station. Anyone who listened to it will remember the endless version of Shirley & Company's "Shame Shame Shame" that it played for up to an hour at a time, but check out the playlists for 1975 on Jeff Roteman's tribute site and you'll find a lot of disco material that no other station in the market played.

As for KDKA-FM, I assume the simulcast was mono. In fact, I thought the classical and jazz tapes it ran were mono as well, but could be wrong (I had only a mono FM radio at the time).
