I have actually had an e-mail exchange with a gentleman who knew a little about the history of Broadcast Plaza on Crane Avenue. I have taken interest in it because it was the first place I ever saw a radio operation as well as operate one (as an intern) some years later.

It's been said that the building was built as a barter for a construction company who wanted advertising. Anything FREE isn't going to be perfect of course. The land was already owned by the company (this was 75/76 and I can't recall right now whether it was Heftel or Nationwide by that point) because the tower in Banksville Park had both signals on it at one time. The irony is that when Heftel bought the stations in 73, he moved both transmitters away from there - 1320 to Swissvale and 99.7 to Television Hill.
