And if you didn't want to be too obvious with an instrumental before every newscast, you could "double back time" it. Back time the instrumental to leave the exact time for the last selection of the hour. Fade it up under the previous outro or live-read spot.

Back when programs has "closing themes" I finished each show with "Stranger on the Shore" timed to end at exactly 1:00 AM. To this day, that song sounds wrong when it doesn't end with a time tone.
